The 10-kilowatt Solar Power Project at Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, is a healthcare support intervention facilitated by Hon. Dekeri Sunday Anamero (Danco) to improve access to reliable and uninterrupted electricity for critical medical services.
The solar power system was successfully installed and officially handed over to the hospital management on Tuesday, 13th January, 2026. The system was strategically deployed at the new Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) building, which houses the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), delivery room, labour ward, antenatal and postnatal wards—all critical units that operate round-the-clock.
To provide uninterrupted power supply to critical maternal and newborn care units
To enhance safe delivery services and emergency medical response
To ensure efficient operation of life-saving medical equipment
To support improved healthcare outcomes for mothers and newborns
Reliable power supply in the O&G complex is essential for emergency interventions, neonatal care, and continuous medical services. This project significantly reduces dependence on alternative power sources, enhances patient safety, and improves the overall quality of healthcare delivery within the facility.
Speaking during the handover, the Acting Chief Medical Director, Dr. Tijani Oseni, described the intervention as timely and impactful, noting that it strengthens the hospital’s capacity to deliver uninterrupted maternal healthcare and underscores the importance of meaningful partnerships in improving patient outcomes.
Hospital management has reaffirmed its commitment to the proper utilization and maintenance of the solar facility to ensure long-term and sustainable benefits for patients and staff.
