Hon. Anamero Dekeri has condemned in the strongest terms the recent violent clashes involving youths in Imiagbse, Awuyemi and Ogute communities in Okpella, which have reportedly resulted in the loss of life.

The development is deeply disturbing and unfortunate, particularly at a time when Okpella is already grappling with the serious challenges of banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities. Rather than allowing internal rivalries and violent confrontations to further divide the community, all stakeholders must work collectively to protect the lives, peace and future of our people.

It is painful that young people who possess the strength, courage and energy to engage in violent confrontations against one another are directing those energies towards their fellow kinsmen, while the real threats to the security and prosperity of Okpella remain a serious concern. Our youths should not become instruments of violence against themselves. Their energy and courage should instead be channelled into protecting their communities, supporting peaceful coexistence and confronting, through lawful and constructive means, the criminal elements that prey on innocent citizens, including farmers and vulnerable members of our communities.

I therefore call on the security agencies and the Edo State Government to urgently intervene in the situation, investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence, prevent further escalation and ensure that those responsible for criminal acts are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

I equally appeal to community leaders, youth leaders, religious leaders and other stakeholders in Okpella to rise above differences and divisions, work together to restore peace and confidence among the people. Okpella cannot afford further bloodshed. We must not allow escalating divisions to destroy the bonds that hold our communities together.

This is a moment for restraint, dialogue, reconciliation and responsible leadership. The people of Okpella deserve to live in peace, cultivate their farms, conduct their businesses and raise their families without fear.

I urge all parties to sheath their swords and embrace peace. The future of Okpella depends on our collective commitment to protecting one another and preserving the unity of our community.
